In Greek Mythology, Hades, the God of the Underworld, was a son of the Titans Chronos and Rhea, with his siblings the original Olympians. Of his brothers, Hades received his part of the Earth in the Underworld while Zeus claimed the sky and Poseidon the Sea. After the Titanomachy (the was against the Titans), Hades received the Helm of Darkness while Zeus and Poseidon were given their own weapons.
Many Greeks feared Hades as only saying his name would strike their hearts. Contrary to popular belief, Hades wasn't evil but he was also stern, cruel, and unpitying. His Roman counterpart was named Pluto.
